Children Distracted Whilst Crossing Road - 10th January 2014

During a recent study carried out by a major car insurer it was revealed that a 1/4 of school children admitted to paying more attention to their mobile phones than to traffic when crossing the road.

AXA motor insurance has recently carried out research that shows that children pay more attention to their phone than to oncoming traffic when crossing the road.

The top distractions were:
  • 61% Listening to Music
  • 60% reading or sending text messages
  • 36% updating their Facebook page
  • 31% making or receiving phone calls
  • 22% browsing the internet
As our senior consultant David Penny said 'This is a serious concern for drivers who may suddenly be faced by a youngster walking into the road with no awareness of the presence of the vehicle'.
