2012 figures reveal the lowest road traffic collision fatalities since the EU started to collect the data, but that does not mean we can be complacent warns the commissioner for transport.
The commissioner for transport said: ‘2012 was a landmark year for European road safety with the lowest number of road deaths ever recorded’.
The figures revealed a total reduction on the previous year of 9% which equates to over 3000 lives saved but with over 75 people killed on EU roads every day we should not let our focus slip.
The European road safety action programme 2011 – 2020 sets out a programme to reduce deaths by half and includes various improvements. You can find out more about the programme on the European Commission Website.
