MOT Research Reveals Shocking Results - 23rd December 2013
New research has revealed a shocking truth about MOT's. The research showed that a 1/3rd of drivers interviewed from a wide cross section of society had driven a car knowing that it had no MOT.

The Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders (SMMT) surveyed 1000 motorists from the UK across a wide section of society regarding the MOT with the following results:
  • 67% admitted driving without a valid MOT for up to a week.
  • 24% for up to a month.
  • 7% for up to 6 months.
  • 2% for more than 6 months.
By driving without an MOT drivers could face a fine of up to £1000 as well as potentially invalidating their insurance. Driving without insurance is a motoring offence under the road traffic act and can land the driver with 6 – 8 penalty points plus a significant fine.

The law states that any vehicle aged 3 years or over is required by law to hold a valid MOT and this is also required to tax the vehicle.

David Penny our Senior Consultant stated ‘We often find that drivers simply forget that the MOT is due. This is why we created the reminder system in frm, so that drivers would get an email to indicated that their MOT was due’.
